The residence
Marren's glasshouse was built in 1886 to grow grapes for a house that no longer exists. The vine survived; the glass did not. We rebuilt the structure on its original cast-iron footings, in the original profile, with modern glazing and the vine left exactly where it was.
The accommodation is a masonry pavilion set inside the glass envelope, so the bedrooms and bathrooms are solid and warm while the space around them stays a glasshouse, with the temperature and the smell that implies. In January it is the warmest room on this coast.
It is let by the week throughout the year. The garden is maintained by the same gardener who has looked after it since 1998, and the vine still fruits.
